Susan Moi, refugee

Duration: 1min : 34sec

On November 15th, tragedy struck Susan Moi when she was trapped in a terrible fire that engulfed the Fairways Apartments in Boulder, causing over 200 people to evacuate their homes. The Sudanese 'Lost Girl' was one of the few that sustained critical injuries. Susan hoped her hardships were behind her when she fled the violence in Africa. Susan is a student at Catalyst High School in Lafayette where she diligently applies herself in hopes of attending nursing school after graduation in the spring. Susan recently shared heart-wrenching stories with her classmates at Catalyst of how she witnessed her father's execution, survived years of abuse in a refugee camp in Kenya, and miraculously ended up in Boulder. In addition to her studies at Catalyst, Susan worked at a local grocery store to earn money for food and rent, and sent whatever she could to her brothers who are still living in a refugee camp in Africa. Susan suffered burns over 30% of her body, and is currently in critical condition at the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver where she was airlifted Saturday night. Still under heavy sedation, Susan does not yet even realize what has happened and hasnt even begun to prepare for the long and painful recovery process she faces in the years to come. What few possessions Susan owned were lost in the fire, and she and her brothers have lost their financial lifeline. While we are confident that her triumphant spirit will enable her to overcome this tragedy, as she has so many in the past, we ask that you make whatever financial contribution you can to help with her recovery. Thank you!
