Obama's Radio Address 11-15-08

From: tivopro

Duration: 3min : 34sec

President-elect Obama talks about the economy in this week's Democratic address. Today, the leaders of the G-20 countries -- a group that includes the world's largest economies -- are gathering in Washington to seek solutions to the ongoing turmoil in our financial markets. I'm glad President Bush has initiated this process -- because our global economic crisis requires a coordinated global response. And yet, as we act in concert with other nations, we must also act immediately here at home to address America's own economic crisis. This week, amid continued volatility in our markets, we learned that unemployment insurance claims rose to their highest levels since September 11, 2001. We've lost jobs for ten straight months -- nearly 1.2 million jobs this year, many of them in our struggling auto industry. And millions of our fellow citizens lie awake each night wondering how they're going to pay their bills, stay in their homes, and save for retirement. Make no mistake: this is the greatest economic challenge of our time. And while the road ahead will be long, and the work will be hard, I know that we can steer ourselves out of this crisis -- because here in America we always rise to the moment, no matter how hard. And I am more hopeful than ever before that America will rise once again. But we must act right now. Next week, Congress will meet to address the spreading impact of the economic crisis. I urge them to pass at least a down-payment on a rescue plan that will create jobs, relieve the squeeze on families, and help get the economy growing again. In particular, we cannot afford to delay providing help for the more than one million Americans who will have exhausted their unemployment insurance by the end of this year. If Congress does not pass an immediate plan that gives the economy the boost it needs, I will make it my first order of business as President. Even as we dig ourselves out of this recession, we must also recognize that out of this economic crisis comes an opportunity to create new jobs, strengthen our middle class, and keep our economy competitive in the 21st century. That starts with the kinds of long-term investments that we've neglected for too long. That means putting two million Americans to work rebuilding our crumbling roads, bridges, and schools. It means investing $150 billion to build an American green energy economy that will create five million new jobs, while freeing our nation from the tyranny of foreign oil, and saving our planet for our children. It means making health care affordable for anyone who has it, accessible for anyone who wants it, and reducing costs for small businesses. And it also means giving every child the world-class education they need to compete with any worker, anywhere in the world. Doing all this will require not just new policies, but a new spirit of service and sacrifice, where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other. If this financial crisis has taught us anything, it's that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers -- in this country, we rise or fall as one nation; as one people. And that is how we will meet the challenges of our time -- together. Thank you.

Nov 29, 2008 - The Palestinians also have an elected democracy, and chose to elect Hamas to parliament. What do you call that? Yes, these are democracies, but not western democracies, not democracies that will ever work..

brotherwoo Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - I would still argue that Europe has a bigger problem than we do. My point is really that our fear of terrorism has immobilized us. We are terrified if handing out visas to the worlds brightest who want to study and live here. We are losing our civil rights. We are desroying our budgets trying to cover ever single base. We will never be able to stop those who are deterimined from terrorizing us. We just can't let terror rule our national agenda.

brotherwoo Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - Yeah, and just about everyone now realizes that it was all false evidence. Everyone. How many advisors in the Bush administration have come out and said publicly that evidence was pushed to the limit. Powell was clearly uncomfortable giving his spiel in front of the UN. He clearly didn't believe that crap he was spewing. Maybe it wasn't started on lies, but, rather, misrepresentation of the facts.

brotherwoo Says:

Nov 29, 2008 - C'mon man. "Kool-aid?" Really? A bunch of vulnerables commit suicide and you want to mock them and compare your fellow Americans with them? Look, man, I know you thrive on this, but partisanship is going away....People are tired of divisive politics.

Nov 30, 2008 - On a US military base because his father was in the Navy. Get your facts straight before commenting.

feirecracker22 Says:

Nov 30, 2008 - Increase the antipsychotic meds they are obviously not working. My grandfather crawled behind enemy lines so that traitorous jerks like you would not be speaking German. You're welcome by the way. After four generations of military service do not talk to me about my military obligations. Has your family served this country? Or do you just prefer to spend your time insulting it. The next time to want to burn the American flag in protest remember to wrap yourself in it first.

feirecracker22 Says:

Nov 30, 2008 - I agree each life is just as valuable as the next.

SanxKendaraTV Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - And I agree that the US army has some of the bravest and most noble minded young men and women out there. I hope these wars end with the minimal loss of life and greatest wisdom for both sides, and the US will fulfil its destiny as the bastion of freedom and liberty:)

Dec 2, 2008 - I hope Obama knows what he's doing because he has alot of supporters who are expecting change. I was at the Obama rally in Chicago, the city was crowded with support. He needs to fix things now because any decision he makes will severely alter the course of human history.

feirecracker22 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - My family has spent four generations serving their country through military service, from Naval Commanders to Air Force Pilots. I am very proud of the military legacy my family has and I do defend their service. I know that they act dignity and civility. I know that they make every effort to keep civilian loss at a minimum and always have. I find it especially difficulty when people in my own country speak ill of the military. Thank you for the kind words. I will pass them along.

feirecracker22 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - Look at the election we just had inculding, thousands of fraudulent voter registrations, voter intimidations at polling locations, and questionable legitimacy of candidates. Just because you don't like the outcome does not mean that it is not democracy. When the people choose their leaders that is democracy.

brotherwoo Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - In a recent interview President Bush admitted that he wished he had a way to go back and reevaluate the intelligence that led to the Iraq War. This is the closest he has come to admitting that maybe he made a mistake in invading Iraq. My point is this: Iraq wasn't the center of terrorism until we landed there. We invaded the wrong country. Our troops have been led to a fight they cannot win.

brotherwoo Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - You must remember that this happens with every election. We need to get away from the idea that Republicans and Democrats are somehow our saviours. The fact is, neither party gets it right. Both parties are full of hypocrits. Americans can't keep going at each others throats like the idiots on Fox and MSNBC. We need to find way to get both parties out of Washington.

feirecracker22 Says:

Dec 3, 2008 - Pay attention. They are winning. Our troops are coming home in victory and people like you will not give them the credit they deserve for their sacrifice and service. You should be ashamed. In the past month there have been zero U. S. casualties. Going to the local Walmart is more dangerous than Iraq right now.

brotherwoo Says:

Dec 4, 2008 - I am paying attention, and I applaud our troops. But you aren't giving the Iraqis enough credit either. Furthermore, according to USA Today, December 2, 2008, issue, the US suffered 16 deaths. Stop lying, or get your facts straigth. Google: "US Troop Deaths November 2008" and see for yourself. One death is too many: bring them home. This is the best way to support them.

brotherwoo Says:

Dec 4, 2008 - None of us disprespects our troops. We feel, however, that they and us have been lied to. In a democracy we should be free to criticize war. Don't mistake criticism of war for criticism of the troops.

C100WA Says:

Dec 6, 2008 - BUSH FAILED AT OPERATING AN OUTHOUSE

brder4ev Says:

Dec 6, 2008 - No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

qess192 Says:

Dec 6, 2008 - "past month there have been zero us casualties" you have no idea what you are talking about. check icasualties. 17 american soldiers died in november. they are down, but since the war started in 2003 there hasn't been a SINGLE month with 0 U.S. casualties to this day. if you even try to deny this fact your an idiot.

feirecracker22 Says:

Dec 8, 2008 - First of all intelligent people don't get their information from Google. The best way to support the troops is to let them do their job and to stop criticizing them and calling them murders, like John Murtha and his fellow Democrats do. If you want to be self righteous about the truth why can't you liberals admit that we have been successful in Iraq. Just admit it. You know its the truth. Do what is best for the troops and admit that they have been victorious.

feirecracker22 Says:

Dec 8, 2008 - Why can't you admit the truth that we have been successful in Iraq? Our troops are victorious and if you support them like you claim then you should admit that they have been doing their job and doing it very well. If you can not admit that you are a fool.

qess192 Says:

Dec 9, 2008 - If you read my comment you know that I wasn't trying to debate wether Iraq was a success or not. That's not what I said, your missing my point. The only thing I pointed out was: your statement that last month there had been 0 u.s. casualties is flat out wrong, we had 17 casualties in november, since the 2003 invasion there hasn't been a single month with 0 u.s. casualties. That's my only point.

AAD718 Says:

Dec 15, 2008 - Free elections, liberated citizens, a democracy...these are nominal concerns

NewChristianSoldiers Says:

Dec 18, 2008 - I refuse to recognize Barack Hussein Obama as President of the United States of America because he is not a natural born citizen and therefore uneligible according to the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Supreme Court refuses to even discuss the many lawsuits recently filed by Philip J. Berg, Alan Keyes and many others. The media refuses to discuss it.
